Supporting the Math Grant Program

The Summit View Math Grant program was built around the belief that all students, regardless of their ability to pay, should have access to high-quality mathematics content and support from knowledgeable instructors.

We believe that all children are capable of learning mathematics deeply but know that opportunities to access high-quality mathematics education are not equitably distributed across classrooms in the United States. We know that mathematics education has traditionally emphasized memorization of facts and procedures rather than sense-making about concepts and worthwhile tasks, resulting in short-term learning and long-term disengagement. This style of instruction has historically underprepared and devalued the contributions of Black, Latinx, and low-income students and created an opportunity gap that is only getting wider with the transition to online schooling.

Through strong relationships and impactful teaching practices, individual and small-group tutoring can help students cultivate the knowledge and confidence they need to be successful in school mathematics. Unfortunately, the cost of math tutoring is often prohibitive for many of the students who are least supported by their schools.

Grant recipients are matched with an instructor who meets with them each week to support progress toward their goals. Your generous donation will allow more students to access the math instruction they need.
